LIFE PROMETHEUS at the “Lionfish in the Mediterranean” Event Pollenzo, Italy, October 28-29, 2024 – The LIFE PROMETHEUS project , coordinated by the Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM) and co-financed by the EU LIFE+ Funding Programme, was featured at the “Lionfish in the Mediterranean” event held in Pollenzo, Italy, on October 28-29, 2024. Although MER was unable to attend the event in person, Demetris Kleitou, MER’s director, and Periklis Kleitou participated remotely.
The event, which focused on the ecological challenges posed by the lionfish invasion in the Mediterranean, brought together approximately 20 scientists and conservation experts specializing in Mediterranean ecosystems and invasive species management. During the event, Demetris Kleitou presented the LIFE PROMETHEUS project, which received significant attention from the audience. The presentation generated insightful questions and discussions on strategies for managing invasive species like lionfish in the region.
The LIFE PROMETHEUS project, with its focus on innovative methods to control invasive species, such as the development of specialized traps and deterrents, continues to be an essential initiative in the fight to protect Mediterranean biodiversity. The project’s goal is to support sustainable management practices and reduce the ecological impact of alien species in the Mediterranean Sea.
