San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy, January 25, 2025 – The LIFE PROMETHEUS project , coordinated by the Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM) and co-financed by the EU LIFE+ Funding Programme, participated in an important event organized by the LIFE EU SHARKS project at the Casa del Pescatore in San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy, on January 25, 2025. The event focused on engaging fishermen in conservation actions aimed at protecting marine biodiversity, specifically sharks and rays in the Adriatic Sea.
The meeting, which involved 12 local fishermen, provided a platform for discussing key species of elasmobranchs that are commonly caught in the Adriatic. The event included an update on the latest regulations and policies implemented by EU institutions to protect these vulnerable species. The LIFE PROMETHEUS coordination team discussed the importance of these laws in promoting sustainable fishing practices and ensuring the long-term conservation of sharks and rays.
This event is part of a broader initiative to involve local communities and stakeholders in conservation efforts, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between scientists, conservationists, and fishermen to ensure a sustainable and balanced marine ecosystem in the Mediterranean. The LIFE PROMETHEUS project continues to work toward improving fisheries management and protecting the marine species that depend on healthy ecosystems.
